Kenya Scouts Association which is the largest Educational Youth Movement for both girls and boys in Kenya will be hosting a world event dubbed "The World Scout Moot" in the year 2010. It is projected that the event will bring together over 3000 young people from all over the world.

The association therefore wishes to recruit dynamic and qualified professionals to organize and manage the event for the period February 2009 to December 2010. The Moot secretariat will be at the Scouts Headquarters Nairobi.

1. MOOT DIRECTOR

Duties:

  • The Moot director will be the lead person in coordinating, planning, implementing and reviewing set activities from the start to the end of the Moot.
  • He/she will be reporting to the Chairman -Moot Organizing Committee (M.O.C)
Requirements:
  • Wealth of experience in organizing major events with at least 5 years experience.
  • A team player
  • Degree from a recognized university
  • Computer proficient
  • Ability to mobilize resources.
2. ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY
Reporting to the Moot Director.

Duties:

Key tasks will include
  • Maintaining the Moot office including correspondence, record keeping, dealing with finances and budgets.
  • Making regular financial reports.
Requirements:
  • Computer proficient in relevant packages
  • A relevant University degree from a recognized university.
  • At least five years experience.

3. PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATION MANAGER

Duties
  • Reporting to the Moot Director
  • Develop a communications and marketing strategy
  • Will be responsible for communicating and marketing the Moot locally and internationally.
  • Building linkages with National Scouts Organizations and other relevant stake holders.
  • Maintaining the positive corporate image of the Association.
Requirements:
  • A degree in Journalism and Public Relations.
  • IT and Computer proficient in relevant packages.
  • Bilingual with a bias of English and French.
  • A mobilizer of resources
  • Possess expected communication and organizational skill.
  • At least five years experience.
4. PROGRAMME AND EXPEDITION CENTERS MANAGER

Reporting to the Moot Director

Duties
  • Develop programmes based on the Moot educational proposal.
  • Oversee the infrastructural development of the Moot activity centers.
  • Oversee the recruitment and training of the service staff.
  • Oversee the production of Moot programme materials
Requirements:
  • A relevant degree in Social Sciences from a recognized university.
  • Computer proficient.
  • Outgoing and social mobilizer
  • Able to cope with work pressure and beat deadlines.
NB: Candidates with the following will have an added advantage:
  • Scouting Knowledge. Mastery in French and Spanish.
  • Experience in working with youth serving organizations and the media.

ABOUT BOATSWAIN'S AND BOSUN'S calls (WHISTLES):
More that the ship's captain, one man on board and one man only, was responsible for a pleasant or a hellish voyage for the ship's crew. He was the boatswain, the first warant officer responsible for handling the crew. Boatswain is one of the oldest seafaring titles and Old English 'basegen', meaning boat's swain or husband, at that time the actual commander of the ship.

The high pitched call signal could be heard across the din of the howling wind, the tumult of the towering waves as they came crashing over the decks. That was when the 'master' most needed his men to listen to the whistle's signals, be it 'Men aloft' or 'Let go....'

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE: The notes made by the whistle are produced by blowing with an even pressure or blowing with a varying pressure to give a warbling sound or trilling sound by vibrating the tongue. To make a variable throttling effect, just close the hand round the bouy
